World Menstrual Hygiene Day Outreach – Abuja (2024)

📅 31 May 2024 📍 All Saints Secondary School, City Gate Police Barracks & Dangbma Community, Abuja

In commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024, the Kuro-Wari Global Foundation carried out a series of impactful outreach sessions across three locations in Abuja: All Saints Secondary School (31st May 2024), City Gate Police Barracks (16th June 2024), and Dangbma Community, off Airport Road (18th June 2024). Participants were educated on menstrual hygiene, puberty, peer pressure and general personal hygiene.

A unique feature was the focus-group mentorship approach, where male mentors engaged the boys and female mentors engaged the girls, allowing for more personalized discussions; boys were sensitized on puberty, self-esteem, and being supportive and respectful towards girls during their menstrual cycles. Sessions were enriched by guest facilitators Esther Jonathan (Music Minister), Favour Omebije (Dance & Performing Artist) and Chidebere Uzowulu (Scalp & Natural Hair Care Expert), alongside counselling professionals including Mrs Ifeoma Ekanem, Eno Bassey, Barr. Miebaka Nyanabo, Agatha, Shalom Ogbueli, Tianah, Uchechukwu Agbo, Mr Wisdom, Charles Ukwa and Ritabella Onyemenam.

This initiative aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 6 (Clean Water & Sanitation).
