Girl Child & Menstrual Health
Menstrual Hygiene Awareness – Gosa Community (2020)
On 30th May 2020, the Kuro-Wari Global Foundation carried out a menstrual hygiene awareness outreach in Gosa Community, Abuja, educating teenage girls on safe and healthy menstrual practices. The girls were grouped into 12 clusters and engaged by trained mentors on menstrual hygiene, self-care and overall wellbeing; peer pressure, painful periods, sexual abuse, low self-esteem and the absence of female role models were openly discussed in a safe, supportive environment.
To address the economic barriers to proper menstrual hygiene, reusable sanitary pads — sustainable, cost-effective, washable and reusable — were distributed to the girls, followed by one-on-one counselling and consultations with the Foundation's in-house doctors.
